Crops for Change is a separate seasonal component of the Community Service/Restitution Program in which youth work together with adult staff to plan, plant, tend and harvest a garden. Few, if any of the youth have ever tended a garden before and by being involved in this program they are learning transferable skills and some have gone on to grow their own gardens. The majority of the crops harvested are donated by the youth to local soup kitchens and food pantries and thus the youth are also “giving back” and providing assistance to families within their own communities.
