Drug and Medical Sharps Disposal

Sharps Disposal

Medical sharps, including lancets and needles, pose a health hazard for children, pets, and waste workers—anyone with potential contact with these hazardous items.

Needles can go into the regular trash or taken to a designated sharps drop off. Residents must package sharps properly: Use a wide mouth heavy plastic container with a tight lid (such as a detergent or fabric softener container.) Close the container and seal with masking or heavy adhesive tape.

The Miami County Solid Waste District now sponsors medical sharp drop-offs at six locations in Miami County:
  • Miami County Sanitary Engineering Department
2000 North County Rd. 25A, Troy
    937-440-5653
  • Miami County Public Health Office
    510 W Water St, Troy
    937-573-3500
  • Tipp City Police Department

    937-667-3112
  • Piqua Police Department
