Miami County's 2015 Roadside Vegetation Control Program and Roadside Mowing

In conformance with Section 5579.04 of the Ohio Revised Code (destruction of brush. briers, weeds, and thistles along highways), which states in part "...county engineers...shall destroy all brush, briers, burrs, vines, noxious weeds...growing within the limits of a county road within their jurisdiction", roadside spraying for weed control and environmental enhancement will be performed by STATE LICENSED PERSONNEL along all county roads during the period of May 1, 2015 thru June 19, 2015, according to Miami County Engineer, Paul P. Huelskamp.  Modifications of this time period may be required if weather conditions so dictate.

Anyone who has sensitive areas adjacent to the road right-of-way, and does not wish these areas to be sprayed, MUST ERECT "BEGIN NO SPRAY" signs to mark the beginning and "END NO SPRAY" signs to mark the end of the area.  Intermediate "NO SPRAY" signs shall be placed at intervals not exceeding 600 feet when the length of the no spray zone is 1200 feet or greater.

ORGANIC FARM OPERATIONS or specialized agricultural activity, must register tracts with the Miami County Engineer's Office annually to define the specific no spray area.  The County Engineer's Office can be contacted at 937-440-5656 and is located at 2100 N. CR 25A, Troy, Ohio.

All signs shall be a minimum of 12" high x 18" wide. Bottom of sign shall be a minimum of 36" above existing ground.  Signs must be made with red or black lettering on a white background and be visible and legible from a moving vehicle.

To further comply with Section 5579.04 of the O.R.C., roadside mowing will be performed along all county roads during the periods of June 1, 2015 thru June 20, 2015, August 1, 2015 thru August 20, 2015 and September 1, 2015 thru September 20, 2015.  Anyone who has wildflowers or ornament vegetation adjacent to the road right-of-way, and does not wish these areas to be mowed, MUST ERECT "BEGIN NO MOW" signs to mark the beginning and "END NO MOW" signs to mark the end of the area.  Intermediate "NO MOW" signs shall be placed at intervals not exceeding 600 feet when the length of the no mow zone is 1200 feet or greater.

Areas not pray treated or mowed shall be maintained by the property owner to insure control of vegetation and the safety of the traveling public.
